HEWAS (FEAT. AFROMAN)
“Wholething” by HEwas
Clocking in at 3 minutes and 5 seconds, “Wholething” is the brand new single from Hewas, featuring none other than, Afroman. It’s sure to make an impression, due to its subject matter and at times, ribald content. However, wrapped tightly within a blanket of provocation and posturing, is a well written and produced effort. Hewas turns in a high quality, and personalized performance that flaunts his impressive vocal range.
The inclusion of Afroman virtually ensures a good time.
Hewas comes from a diverse and multicultural background. He claims to be mostly influenced by pop music, but admits his tastes are constantly evolving. He shows a decidedly original style on “Wholething” by displaying his impressive vocal dexterity. He straddles genres a bit, and proves that not only is he a great pop vocalist, but could excel as an R & B singer, as well. He recently developed an appreciation for Billie Eilish, which might explain his tendency to have a hushed tone, and inaudible lyrics at times on “Wholething.”

In Hewas’s case, it gives him a bit of mystique to be only marginally discerible at points. The song has a fresh and wry energy about it. With Afroman’s involvement, its bound to expand to a wider audience. Afroman was aninteresting choice to collaborate with Hewas. The gamble pays off in a big way, though, as Afroman’s salacious and unapologetic section will defintely tantalize the senses.
The song is essentially about the non committal aspects of hookup culture. The male perspective is content with casual liasons, and they have enagaged with a young lady, who is in turn, much less content with that arrangement. Afroman is extremely direct and graphic, during his verses, that is as shocking as it is hilarious.
Well, hilarious to some, as with modern culture, sensitivities to this type of chauvinism is well documented. On the one hand, this gives the “Wholething” an edgy and outlaw distinction, that will help with some audiences, and possibly alienate others.
Now of course, fans of Afroman won’t be surprised to hear such brash vulgarity, but this is technically, Hewas. He’s an artist who is still establishing himself, and this is something of a bold direction to take. The sheer quality of the track, proves that gamble has at least, partially paid off. Many will find this tune to be irresistible, fun, and even a little sexy, as Hewas exudes a steamy charisma. I certainly see other high profile artists, interested in collaborating with him, after hearing the quality and uniqueness of “Wholething.”

All in all, “Wholething” is going to offer a flattering introduction to Hewas, for those unfamiliar with him. It’s an engaging track, that shows a broad range, and studio ingenuity. It wil be crucial for him to continue to choose the right collaborators, going forward. So far, he has worked with Blazar, aka Jerad Finck, to marvelous results. If Hewas can continue to deliver performances of this caliber, the whole thing might just be his for the taking.
