Sayed Sabrina

Sayed Sabrina can swing from just about any genre but sticks within R&B, Blues and Soul parameters on “Goodie Two Shoes,” the first single from the album Thou Art That. And what a mighty fine single it is from that first vibrant note right down to the last. Sabrina is a native Angeleño who, during the 80s, was part of the L.A. punk rock scene. She came up on the streets of Hollywood and played with “Big Boy Blues,” and went onto playing on the same bill as B.B. King, Los Lobos, Jimmy Cliff, Dr. John, Leon Russell, The Temptations, The Motels.

It’s hard to know anything about an artist without some research, so I gave Sayed Sabrina the extra time and I’m glad I did. This isn’t a pedestrian indie artist she is coming from a more serious place with experience and knows what she’s doing and only works with the best musicians and producers. It also gives a chance to talk about the artist and the music instead of just running the tracks by readers. There is a true treasure in this talent that it takes exposure to justify, and the video let’s you see how both relaxed and professional she works in the studio. The song “Goodie Two Shoes” isn’t just about what that normally gets into, there’s a nice twist and it’s all about taking care of yourself and getting some new shoes and a new attitude.

This is a very well- produced sounding track with just the right amount of grit to make it feel real and a lot of moxie to go with it and a message to be heard far and wide about what might be obvious, but always necessary. Combine that with a new pair of shoes and “Goodie Two Shoes” takes on a whole new meaning. The video keeps the song in order while putting some visionary perspective to it and a couple of lures for more of the same which can be found on the thou Art That CD, out now. This CD is magnificent and “Goodie Two Shoes” being only the first single, it has a long way to go to be heard and more singles to follow are most assured after hearing it and partaking in the video online. I watched it a lot and recommend it for the visual perspective of the music, her singing and a look at the players doing their thing.

The most notable values coming from Sayed Sabrina is her huge diva vocals which are simply second to none and so full of great shops, the song seems to have almost written itself for her. The horn players are a large part of the sound on “Goodie Two Shoes,” but it’s also a mood piece which enhances her voice to the stratosphere and back. If you like Jazz and Soul blended right with the blues for a change, this single and video does the business and stands up to contemporary blues artists of the current scene.
