Bruce Sudano
So soft that it’s almost difficult to understand how their melody is as sterling as it is, the strings that make up the backdrop for Bruce Sudano’s incredible lead vocal in the new single and music video “American Sunset” just might be as powerful as his words are in this latest studio work. There’s something painful about the imagery in both the lyrics and the imagery of the music video for “American Sunset” that can’t help but tug at your heart strings in you’re a stateside singer/songwriter buff, but through that pain we find an optimistic hope for the future no one could resist.
This vocal is definitely as fragile as any of the guitar parts here are, but it’s so brooding that it makes the words Sudano sings to us feel larger than life. There’s rarely an instance in which this player doesn’t put his own unique stamp on whatever verse is slipping away from his lips, but in this most recent trip to the recording studio, he seems to have been particularly emotional behind the mic. The lyrics flow from his heart like an out of control wildfire, burning through anything dry enough to get caught up in its blaze.
Bruce Sudano successfully channels the passion of a singer/songwriter strain many had long-feared gone from the pop/rock spectrum altogether in his new single “American Sunset,” and although it’s far from the only socially-conscious indie release you should be listening to this October, it’s become a personal favorite of mine since first taking a peek at its music video just this past weekend.
There’s probably never been as divisive a time for this country post-civil war as the one we’re faced with today, but with a soundtrack from artists like this one, we stand a chance at weathering the storm and coming out just a little stronger than we were before.
